Recipe blogs for food sensitivities
Where do I get my recipes? Let me show you my favourite places to find free recipes. This is a round-up of my favourite recipe websites, especially for those with food sensitivities or intolerances. Many have filters where you can search by gluten-free, dairy-free and other options.
Years ago, I thought that cooking meant heating something up in the oven. I’ve learned so much from searching recipe websites and trying them out, seeing what works for me and what doesn’t. As well, I’ve built up a list of food blogs that I trust to have workable and delicious recipes, because there’s nothing more disappointing than trying a new recipe and have it not turn out.
Below are websites that I trust for recipes, with options to find ones that work with my food restrictions or that will give me suggestions for adapting the recipe for food sensitivities. Many of these bloggers have also published cookbooks, so you can get more of their recipes in hard copy.
Are you ready?
Detoxinista
Meghan Gilmore’s Detoxinista recipe blog was one of the first recipe websites I started exploring when I shifted to being gluten-free in 2014. With an unbelievable array of recipes for gluten-free and other food restrictions, it’s been one of my go-to websites for years and one of the first ones I recommend to someone just starting out. When she started posting Instant Pot recipes, my curiosity was piqued and soon after that, I purchased an Instant Pot for myself, and her blog (and her pressure cooking cookbook!) have been really helpful in learning how to get comfortable with the Instant Pot.
Some of my favourite Detoxinista recipes include Flourless Peanut Butter Blondies, which was the first recipe I tried using nut butter instead of flour, Kung Pao Chickpeas in the slow cooker, Almond Flour Pizza Crust (it really works!), and many more.
Minimalist Baker
Minimalist Baker is full of recipes that contain ten ingredients or less, 1 bowl, or 30 minutes to prepare. Dana Shultz has categories for gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, vegetarian, egg-free, grain-free and so many other ways to search. For those with nut allergies, please be aware that the recipes use a lot of almond flour as a gluten-free option, but there are plenty of other recipes to choose from.
Some of my favourite Minimalist Baker recipes include Roasted Beet Hummus, Vegan Gluten-Free Pumpkin Bread (contains oats and nuts) and Super Fluffy Gluten Free Pancakes.
My Heart Beets
Full of Indian recipes you can make at home, My Heart Beets has given me so much inspiration for adding depth and flavour. Ashley’s recipes are a part of my journey learning to use my Instant Pot. Hover over the menu to see all the options she has for finding and filtering recipes. If you’ve been wanting to try making Indian recipes at home, start here!
Pinch of Yum
Who can resist a cooking website called Pinch of Yum? Not me. Just like she promises, Linday’s recipes are delicious, and are sorted into several categories including by food restriction. There’s so much here - try her Chicken with Coconut Kale, Thai Yellow Chicken Curry with Potatoes, or Bang Bang Salmon with Avocado Cucumber Salsa.
Joyous Health
Joy McCarthy is an alumna of the same nutrition school that I attended, the Institute of Holistic Nutrition. I lean more on her three cookbooks - and I have all of them - than her Joyous Health website these days, because there’s something about leafing through a hard copy cookbook every so often. Her website is full of free, whole food recipes like Sweet Potato Shepherd’s Pie, Ma McCarthy’s Legendary Stuffing (which I make at least once a year with the end pieces of my gluten-free bread loaves), and for dessert, try some Sweet Potato Brownies.
heal me Delicious
This is a great resource for Autoimmune Paleo (AIP) and grain-free recipes. Nicole Charles developed this food blog of allergen-friendly, delicious recipes because we still want delicious food even with food sensitivities and autoimmune conditions. Looking for a tomato-free pasta sauce? Here you go: Nomato Sauce. Try her AIP Turkey Burgers, or AIP Banana Pancakes with casava flour. Enjoy!
Paleo Running Momma
For simple paleo recipes, you can’t beat Paleo Running Momma. Her site includes filtering by food sensitivities such as nut-free, egg-free and Whole 30. Some of my favourites are her Walnut Crusted Turkey Cutlets and Paleo Banana Bread with no Sugar (the best banana bread recipe I’ve found so far!).
The Loopy Whisk
As a recent discovery, I’ve been exploring Katarina Cermelj’s amazing gluten-free recipes on her website, The Loopy Whisk. She publishes new recipes regularly and earlier in 2025, she published her book (which is a-maz-ing), The Elements of Baking, breaking down how to adapt any recipe to be gluten-free, egg-free, dairy-free, or all of the above.
Because I’ve only recently found her, I haven’t tried a lot of her recipes, but I’ll update you when I find my favourites!
